Dental Implants - Lakewood Ranch Dental Health and Wellness

Dental Implants restore oral health and function, and they offer patients many advantages over other tooth restorations. If you are missing teeth or have damaged teeth that need to be extracted, we urge you to consider dental implants as your replacement solution.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are comprised of three separate pieces that work together to create natural-looking and fully functional replacement teeth:

1. The first piece of the restoration, the titanium screw, acts as a substitute tooth root. The root is extremely important to the health of both the tooth and the jaw bone. When you chew, the root provides the stimulation needed to sustain a healthy jaw. The dental implant screw integrates with the jaw bone after placement and maintains the necessary stimulation.

2. The metal abutment is the second piece of the restoration. Either it can be placed at the same time as the titanium screw, or it can be placed after the screw has had time to heal and fuse with the jaw. The abutment acts as the connector piece between the screw and the final piece, the prosthesis.

3. The third and final piece of a dental implant is the prosthesis. In most dental implant cases, such as single tooth replacement, this prosthesis is a crown. Dental implants can also be used to support multi-tooth bridges and full arches of new teeth. Whether you are receiving a crown or other prosthesis, it will be custom designed to look just like your natural teeth.
